Albino Rocca’s Barbera d’Alba is a small-volume cuvée from a parcel of vines planted in 2004 on the clay and limestone soils of San Rocco Seno d’Elvio—just outside the Alba township on the edge of the Barbaresco area. This Barbera was raised entirely in tank and bottled early to keep everything vibrant and fresh.

Super-pure aromas of red and blue fruit, chalky minerality and some pepper and anise spice flow from the glass. It’s flush with succulent fruit weight, the compact power cosseted by tightly wound tannins and bracing acidity. The finish lingers with traces of liquorice and spice. Another home run from Rocca in 2021. Add a bowl of ragù, and you’ll have a feast.

“The 2021 Barbera d’Alba is another beautiful wine from this vintage at Albino Rocca. Raspberry, freshly cut flowers and spice are all perked up by bright acids. This brisk, delineated, tank-aged Barbera is all class.” 91 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Description

Winemakers since four generations.

Our history starts in the mid 1940’s when Albino Rocca’s father Giacomo started in the wine business initially selling grapes from family vineyards and later making his own wine that was sold in demijohn.

Thanks to the inheritance of some of our most precious vineyards in the 1960’s our grandfather was able to start what is now our winery Albino Rocca. Albino’s hard work and his strong support of our father Angelo Rocca laid the foundation that created a family winemaking tradition that has grown internationally over the years.

Our history has been built together, year by year. First through the gradual acquisition of vineyards and the production of not only Nebbiolo, but also Dolcetto and Barbera in addition to our continuous effort to evolve the quality of our Barbaresco – which starts in the vineyards and continues in the cellar.

Fine Wine Cellars

On the one hand, our role as a merchant of all things wine & spirits could not be simpler. We aim to source the most delicious, the most authentic, and the highest quality products possible from Australia and around the world in order to offer them to our clients. We live or die by how well we perform this task. Of course things are rarely as simple or as easy as they seem. Hunting for wines & spirits is no different. Apart from the months spent travelling, countless days and evenings spent tasting and the outrageous wine expenditure in the name of ‘research’, sourcing quality wine and spirits requires expertise and experience. Understanding the potential of a producer and their products is much more than just a slurp and a spit.
