Albino Rocca’s Dolcetto d’Alba is drawn from a single vineyard in Barbaresco, a first-rate location with an east to south-east exposure for the most part. The vines were planted in 1960 and 1978. Thanks to the maturity and sensible yields they provide, this wine displays more intensity and texture than many a garden-variety Dolcetto d’Alba. The 2021 was raised in stainless steel for six months.

What a cracking Dolcetto. It’s a riot of zest and energy, opening with a lovely interplay of summer berries, violets and spice before intensifying on the palate with a plush texture, deftly partnered with perfumed, juicy tannins and mouth-watering freshness. “Lights out”, indeed.

“The 2021 Dolcetto d’Alba captures all the elegance of this late-ripening vintage. Fresh and aromatic, with striking depth, the 2021 is lights out. A burst of dark red cherry, plum, rose petal and lavender lingers on the impossibly long finish. The 2021 is the best Dolcetto here in recent memory.” 91 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Description

Winemakers since four generations.

Our history starts in the mid 1940’s when Albino Rocca’s father Giacomo started in the wine business initially selling grapes from family vineyards and later making his own wine that was sold in demijohn.

Thanks to the inheritance of some of our most precious vineyards in the 1960’s our grandfather was able to start what is now our winery Albino Rocca. Albino’s hard work and his strong support of our father Angelo Rocca laid the foundation that created a family winemaking tradition that has grown internationally over the years.

Our history has been built together, year by year. First through the gradual acquisition of vineyards and the production of not only Nebbiolo, but also Dolcetto and Barbera in addition to our continuous effort to evolve the quality of our Barbaresco – which starts in the vineyards and continues in the cellar.

Fine Wine Cellars

On the one hand, our role as a merchant of all things wine & spirits could not be simpler. We aim to source the most delicious, the most authentic, and the highest quality products possible from Australia and around the world in order to offer them to our clients. We live or die by how well we perform this task. Of course things are rarely as simple or as easy as they seem. Hunting for wines & spirits is no different. Apart from the months spent travelling, countless days and evenings spent tasting and the outrageous wine expenditure in the name of ‘research’, sourcing quality wine and spirits requires expertise and experience. Understanding the potential of a producer and their products is much more than just a slurp and a spit.
