Varietal: Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella, Oseleta

The result of the Allegrini family’s expertise, a true classic of the appellation, this red wine embraces tradition, territory and the know-how of country ways. Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta are left to air dry at least until December and are checked daily to ensure perfectly healthy grapes. Lengthy refining and ageing finally yields a red wine that has become emblematic of Italian oenology, alongside Barolo and Brunello di Montalcino. It has imposing structure and depth, as much in its aromas of mature fruit and spices, as on the palate, where the alcohol is sustained by the right degree of acidity and refined tannins.

Located in Fumane di Valpolicella, the Allegrini family have been producing wine in the region since 1557 and today tend around 70 hectares of vines in the communes of Fumane, Sant’ Ambrogio and San Pietro, all situated within the Valpolicella Classico DOC. The Allegrini range includes Valpolicella, Amarone and Recioto as well as the single vineyard wines; La Grola made from Corvina, Rondinella, Syrah and Sangiovese and La Poja produced from just Corvina. Work in both the vineyard and winery is meticulous with no stone left unturned. Allegrini are considered to be one of the region’s, and Italy’s finest producers.

VALPOLICELLA AREA

Love for the land has been the driving force behind the Allegrini family’s commitment to enhancing the potential of Valpolicella and its viticultural traditions. The far-sighted choices made by the company have made it one of the leading wine companies in Italy, and thus the new generation of wine-makers in Valpolicella look to Allegrini wines as an indisputable benchmark.

GEOGRAPHY
Valpolicella, one of the most prestigious wine-making regions in Italy, has been dedicated to wine-making since ancient times, as the etymology of its name suggests: “val polis cellae” means, in fact, “the valley of many cellars “. It is located in the western part of Veneto, between Verona and Lake Garda, with its boundary demarcated to the north by the Lessini mountains.

The territory extends for some 240 km² (92 mi²) and the surface area dedicated to vineyards totals some 6,000 hectares (14,826 acres). The area referred to as ‘Valpolicella Classico’, which is most suited to the production of high-quality, prestigious wines due to its altitude, lies within the boundaries of just 5 towns: Sant’Ambrogio, San Pietro in Cariano, Fumane, Marano and Negrar.

The soils are predominantly calcareous and date back to the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. The climate is generally mild and temperate with rainfall of around 900 – 1100 mm (35-43 inches) per year. The area is characterised by a series of valleys crossed by ‘progni’ – small, torrential water courses – and is steeped in history and culture; apart from attractive rural panoramas, visitor to the area will easily chance upon ancient parish churches, Renaissance villas and important examples of rural architecture.
