The D.W.S. is the wine we make to pay tribute to those inspirational members of the wine world. This style was inspired by the passing of Stanislao ‘Stanko’ Radikon, one of the pioneers of the orange/amber wine revolution, in 2016, hence the initials S.R. on the back label. This is a true orange wine, white grapes fermented on their skins, extended skin contact and ageing in oak for over 18 months.

WINEMAKING

For the first time in its life, the Dead Winemakers Society Muscat is a blend. In the spirit of experimentation we decided to pick the Muscat a little later than usual, creating a structured base with deeper amber hues and more pronounced flavours. To balance out the acidity we chose to crush some younger Semillon on top of the Muscat, adding a bright acidity which rounds the wine out. The result is a complex, savoury, structural and delicious wine.

TASTING NOTES

NOSE: Dried apricots, raisins, nutmeg, marmalade.

PALATE: A concentrated, fuller bodied palate that with a broader weight and rounded acidity. Grippy, chalky tannins meld nicely to create something a little more playful.

PAIR: Pork belly, seafood, dumplings or umami based dishes.

CELLAR: Up to 10 years

About Alpha Box & DiceAlpha Box & Dice

Based in McLaren Vale, South Australia, Alpha Box & Dice are embarking on an Alphabet of Wine. Each ‘letter’ embodies an individual winemaking project, with the end goal being a complete collection of wines that celebrates the diverse styles and varieties found in South Australia’s famous wine regions, including McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley.

Since its beginning in 2008, AB&D has become a champion of South Australia’s alternative – particularly Mediterranean – varieties, exhibiting innovation at every step of the process by bending traditional winemaking norms. Wines from the Alphabet of Wine are now available all over the world in some of the best restaurants and cellars.
