A colourful mix of pink and orange, Fever has a vibrant nose of red apple, lychee, citrus zest and berry. It has a bright palate with a juicy texture and a chalky white tannin grip.

As the growing seasons change, so does Fever.

Each year it is unique in vineyard makeup and varietal composition, influenced by natural elements and how we feel in the winery.

Yet, it always looks like a Yarra Valley wine, crafted by us.

Sitting under the umbrella of orange or skin contact wine, it is a blend of 4 different varieties that are each perfect reflections of their soils.

Vintage

The 2021 growing season and harvest were a complete turnaround from the hardships of 2020.

It wasn’t without worries, as the return of the La Nina weather pattern brought back thoughts of 2011 and led to a wetter than average year. Thankfully, the rains were perfectly and evenly timed.

The mild season avoided major heat spikes and produced healthy canopies and strong vines that ripened plentiful fruit. An exceptional vintage.

Winemaking

Fever isn’t about one variety. By blending varieties we are increasing the interactions of the year and hopefully eliminating variety as a key feature.

Pinot Gris – 54%

Pinot noir – 17.5%

Chardonnay – 16.5%

Gewurztraminer – 12%

Picking date for each variety was dictated by the site. They are blended and co-fermented over a long 40 day ferment in open fermenters.

Gewurztraminer and half of Pinot Gris skins included.

100% wild ferment and malo.

Old barrique and puncheon aged without sulphur for 5 months.

Bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulphites added.

About Arfion Wines

Arfion simply means “Our Wine” in Scottish Gaelic.

Originally from New Zealand, Dave Mackintosh established Arfion with his father Brian and brother Jimmy in 2011.

The time was right to build a small independent wine business, where we can be hands on, free to take some risks, and make wines that we truly love. Dave has been obsessed with making wine since ’98 and respects numerous styles. This has driven Arfion to mix things up to create classic, single site, single variety expressions as well as multi-vineyard blends and lo-fi offerings.

Sourcing grapes from highly skilled, sustainable growers from across the Yarra, we take care in making sure the site and variety are in harmony throughout the season. Low impact winemaking adds layers of flavour and texture and allows us to exhibit our own thumbprint.

Our wines are intuitive, evolving styles, that reflect the many connections between vineyard, variety and vintage.

We do abide by one rule. All wines must deliver good times.
