Leroux’s 2017 Chambolle is drawn from a range of sites, not least a 1955 parcel of Les Véroilles, a site that’s perhaps the highest villages vineyard in Chambolle, sitting on terres blanches above Bonnes Mares. Then there’s a healthy addition of two 1er Cru vineyards, Les Cras and Les Chatelots (contributing one-third of the blend!), as well as a parcel in Bas Doix (on terres brunes under Les Amoureuses on the Vougeot border).

AUsing 50% whole bunches and 20% new oak, Leroux has sculpted a seductive Chambolle that opens with a measure of controlled, fleshy flamboyance before segueing into something more suave, sappy and refreshing.

“Fine bright mid red purple, the fruit is more engaging on the nose than the Vosne. More energy here, and a better touch of acidity. Lovely weight through the middle and real energy at the back. A great success and a decent sized cuvée (13 barrels) having made none in 2016.” 90-91 points, Jasper Morris, InsideBurgundy.com

“The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Village, a quarter of which comes from the Premier Cru Les Chatelot, has a tightly wound blackberry, briar and raspberry bouquet displaying fine mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied and quite linear, with grippy, slightly chalky tannin and a touch of spice toward the finish. There is good tension here, although I would like a tad more length.” 88-90 points, Neal Martin, Vinous January 2019

On the one hand, our role as a merchant of all things wine & spirits could not be simpler. We aim to source the most delicious, the most authentic, and the highest quality products possible from Australia and around the world in order to offer them to our clients. We live or die by how well we perform this task. Of course things are rarely as simple or as easy as they seem. Hunting for wines & spirits is no different. Apart from the months spent travelling, countless days and evenings spent tasting and the outrageous wine expenditure in the name of ‘research’, sourcing quality wine and spirits requires expertise and experience. Understanding the potential of a producer and their products is much more than just a slurp and a spit.
