This is the first year Janssen has worked with the Langhorne Creek block, which is on sandy soils over limestone over clay. The Barossa block, at the edge of Vine Vale, sits on alluvial sandy/clay soils on the Barossa Valley floor.

The Barossa fruit (85%) was picked on the March 7, and 70% whole bunches spent time in French hogsheads and barrels. The Langhorne Creek fruit was picked one day later and was 100% destemmed and fermented to dryness on skins before being pressed to large French puncheons for a quick rest before bottling.

About Bink Wines

@binkwine is here y’all and yes indeed, we are chuffed! Koen Jansens is from Belgium but landed in Australia in 2012 to work as a sommelier, but the call of the vineyard was too strong.

After a few stints with Jauma, Lucy M and Spinifex, Koen started Yeti and the Kokonut.. and then out on his own with Bink in 2017. Yet another winemaker who is unable to take my calls because he is too busy in the vineyard.. but alas, it’s a small price to pay for these here great wines.

Koen Janssens

Born and raised in Turnhout, Belgium. Koen was brought up on food and wine from early age. His grandpa (home grown gardener, breeder of rabbits, worker on fruit orchards) and his mother had a keen taste for honest food and wine.

Koen started working in Michelin starred restaurants after graduating in 2005 at Hotelschool Koksijde (hospo high school).

This hospo journey took him to Australia in 2012, where he met winemakers that give him a lasting impression. Working vintages with Jauma wines, Lucy Margaux and Spinifex Wines. Koen started Bink wines in 2017.

Fine Wine Cellars

On the one hand, our role as a merchant of all things wine & spirits could not be simpler. We aim to source the most delicious, the most authentic, and the highest quality products possible from Australia and around the world in order to offer them to our clients. We live or die by how well we perform this task. Of course things are rarely as simple or as easy as they seem. Hunting for wines & spirits is no different. Apart from the months spent travelling, countless days and evenings spent tasting and the outrageous wine expenditure in the name of ‘research’, sourcing quality wine and spirits requires expertise and experience. Understanding the potential of a producer and their products is much more than just a slurp and a spit.
