Blend: Sangiovese (99%), Mammolo (1%)

The wine is fresh on the nose with aromas of mandarin, cherry, rose-water  and spice.  The palate is dry, with moreish mid-palate texture and mouth-watering acidity.  Great for seasonal drinking with antipasti!

Season
The 2021/2022 growing season again was punctuated by spring rain, giving way to a temperate summer. Mild, cool conditions through to harvest yielded beautifully clean, vibrant, and juicy Sangiovese grapes.

Viticulture
Sangiovese is grown at Tumblong (Gundagai) (ironstone-rich red loam) and Murrumbateman (granite & red loam over shale). Mammolo, a lightly coloured, fragrant, musk-like grape accompanies Sangiovese in this wine.

Winemaking
Sangiovese and Mammolo grapes were hand-harvested in late February, and early April, respectively. The grapes were whole-bunch pressed, yielding just the barest pink colour in the juice. A moderately cool fermentation was undertaken before preparation for bottling.

About Collector Wines

Alex McKay started Collector Wines in 2005 with just a handful of cool climate shiraz and a determination to make elegant, long-lived wines.

Fast forward to today, and we are known for wines that sing with a purity of regional expression and varietal definition. Our grapes come from vineyards dotted around the Canberra District and region, but our cellar door is in the heart of country Collector, just outside Canberra.
