Tumbarumba Pinot Noir; “..all the plum and cherry all-sorts you could wish for..” James Halliday

Cool climate Pinot Noir from the Tumbarumba region is becoming as well-known as those from Tasmania and Central Otago as a distinct new world style.

VITICULTURE
A blend of three great Pinot Noir clones: 777, MV6 and D5V12, sourced from varying elevations and aspects on the vineyard.

WINE MAKING
A portion was fermented on indigenous yeast with some whole bunches included in the ferment. It was then matured for 12 months in French Oak Barriques.

TASTING NOTES
A lovely nose of plum and cherry with spice and floral notes. The palate is creamy and generous with vibrant cherry, strawberry and savoury notes. The wine is wonderfully textural with silky, polished tannins on the long finish.

REVIEWS:

“..Excellent colour, deep and clear; all the plum and cherry all-sorts you could wish for, discretely supplied by fine tannins and oak.” James Halliday

“.. Full of black cherries, spice, along with hints of sweet vanilla and some smokiness adds to the complexity of the nose. The palate follows through with soft tannins, integrated sweet fruit and well-balanced acidity. Vibrant in colour and vibrant in texture and flavour.” – Stephen Read, Wine Matrix

“Bright and youthfully charming, the wine offers lifted aromas of sweet cherry, plum, floral and mixed spice on the nose, leading to a juicy palate that is beautifully rounded and flowing. Elegant and soothing with a lovely silky finish.” – Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

About Coppabella Wines

Coppabella is the first locally owned and operated winery in Tumbarumba to be awarded 5 stars by James Halliday. This puts us another step closer to giving the region the recognition it deserves.

There are few places in Australia cool enough to craft world class wines from early ripening varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. That this can be achieved in Southern NSW is among the most exciting stories in Australian wine making today.

Jason and Alecia Brown were seduced by the well credentialed, high altitude, alpine vineyard. The purity and serenity of the site was intoxicating, the potential to create the ultimate expression of cool climate wines on mainland Australia, was impossible to refuse. Under the Brown’s ownership the entire vineyard has been transformed.

Rather than just grow grapes for multi-nationals, all of the vineyard’s fruit is now made into wine under the Coppabella label. The name Coppabella pays tribute to the original cattle station that occupied the area in the 1800’s.

Coppabella Vineyard, Tumbarumba NSW

Tumbarumba has some of the coldest viticulture on mainland Australia. It is a place of rare beauty; there is purity in the air, crystal mountain waters, and the bushland is dense with native animals. In this unique climate we can craft wines that are focused and driven. With expression and refinement that speak of their origin.
A family owned & run winery. Jason & Alecia Brown’s Coppabella Vineyard is the only, James Halliday, five star rated winery in Tumbarumba.
