Inspiration for this wine has been drawn from the great wines of Burgundy, many of which show a level of elegance and restraint that is seldom seen in new world Pinot Noir. Accordingly, The Zumma Pinot possesses a depth of flavour and a finesse that belies its new world origins.

Cherries, berry fruits and characters of fresh spice are abundant on the nose, while fine silky tannins, restrained oak and taut acidity provide the palate with great length and balance. We feel that this wine possesses a quality that truly reflects our long term dedication both in the vineyard and the winery and will certainly reward those who are patient.

The name “Zumma” stems from a baby nickname for Garry and Margaret’s daughter Zoe (or Zoe Zoe Zum Zum to family and friends!). With such long held sentimentality it was the obvious name choice for the limited bottling of the wine produced from the Crittenden family’s oldest and most cherished vines.

Drink with: Coq au vin, porcini mushroom risotto, spice roasted chicken.

Cellaring: Enjoy now or in the next ten years.

Crittenden Estate, Mornington Peninsula

Red 5 Star Rated Winery – By James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion 2020

First planted in 1982, Crittenden Estate is one of the Mornington Peninsula’s few multi generational wineries. A true family business, the father and son team of Garry and Rollo Crittenden draw from nearly 50 years of combined experience to produce the regional stars of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, as well as emerging Spanish and Italian varieties from around Victoria under their Los Hermanos and Pinocchio labels.

Garry and Rollo have purchased several pieces of additional equipment to compliment that already held at the winery. Rollo’s desire to continually improve and evolve will see the use of gentle Conveyor Belts instead of abrasive Augers and Must Pumps in an effort to better handle the delicate tannin structure of Pinot Noir. Additionally, the facility’s large cool-room is perfect for retaining aromatics in Chardonnay ferments, while the ability to divide the barrel store into three separate sections will ensure ideal maturation conditions can be maintained year round for all wines.
