For the Grenache grapes, the stony Piedlong Plateau in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC area, north of the village, and the highest point in the production area (128m). For the Mourvèdre, the Pignan lieu-dit, east of Piedlong.

GRAPE VARIETIES
70-year-old grenache 90% and 50-year-old mourvèdre 10%.

VINIFICATION
grapes are hand-picked, with double sorting at the vine and a third sorting in the winery. Gentle crushing and selective destemming followed by at least 30 days’ traditional fermentation in concrete and wooden vats. Pneumatic pressing, then systematic malolactic fermentation.

MATURATION
20-22 months in French oak foudres (60 hl), bottled without filtration or fining. Marketed at 2 years.

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe has been run by our family, the Brunier family, for five generations – since 1891 to be precise. The estate’s vineyards, 60 years old on average, are planted on the celebrated Plateau of La Crau, a site renowned for grape-growing in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

One of the Rhône’s great estates, Vieux Telegraphe is run by Fredec and Daniel Brunier, the great-grandsons of founder, Hippolyte Brunier. The domaine occupies some 70 hectares on the stony plateau of Le Crau in the east of the Châteauneufdu- Pape appellation. The wines of Vieux Telegraphe are true classics – robust and earthy with strong personalities and a great track record of longevity in the cellar.

The reds are led by Grenache with Mourvedre and Syrah following in behind and are aged in concrete tank for 9 months before time in foudre. As a counterpoint to the estates rich red wine offerings, the white wines show great detail and clarity with the Châteauneuf predominately Clairette and Grenache Blanc with aging split between stainless steel tanks and barrique.
