Wine Advocate: 89-91 Points

The 2017 Volnay Clos de la Cave is lovely bursting from the glass with aromas of red berries spices and potpourri followed by a medium-bodied elegantly satiny palate that’s nicely concentrated despite its giving charming profile framed by melting tannins. This lieu-dit boasts light but surprisingly deep soils and is located on the hillside behind Bouley’s winery.
Vinous: 89-91 Points

The 2017 Volnay Clos de la Caves includes 50% whole bunches that makes a difference on the nose offering tobacco and undergrowth aromas a touch of black tea that complement the brambly red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin a brisk line of acidity nothing powerful or intense but there is fine precision on the understated finish. Drink over the next decade.

About Domaine Jean-Marc Bouley

The Bouley family can trace their winemaking lineage back to the early 14th century and Jean-Marc took over the family domaine in 1985 after the death of his father. Today the estate spans 12 hectares in Volnay, Pommard and Beaune. Since 2006 winemaking is carried out by his son Thomas, who returned to France after vintages in Oregon and Felton Road in New Zealand.

These are wines that bridge the gap between traditional Burgundy & the New World, showing superb transparency of terroir, superb purity and fruit density throughout their length. Considered by many to be one of the rising stars of the Côtede-Beaune
