Australia’s best-known Grüner Veltliner from the grape’s Austrian heartland offers distinctive aromas of green apple, white pepper, hints of mango and delicate herbal notes. This Federspiel is a classic example of Grüner Veltliner with its medium-body crisp acidity, juicy fruits and white spice on the finish.

Grapes for Domäne Wachau Grüner Veltliner Federspiel Terrassen were carefully hand-picked from steeply terraced vineyards throughout the Wachau valley. Work in the vineyard takes place based on sustainable and, increasingly, organic principles, without the use of insecticides or herbicides, and grapes are hand-picked. The grapes are carefully selected and then processed in a pneumatic tank press, with the must then fermented under controlled temperature and aged on their fine lees in stainless steel tanks.

Grüner Veltliner Federspiel Terrassen is a real benchmark wine from Wachau, characterised by fresh fruit and pronounced minerality. The wine offers distinctive aromas of green apple, white pepper, hints of mango and delicate herbal notes. This Federspiel is a classic example of Grüner Veltliner with its medium-body crisp acidity, juicy fruits, and white spice on the finish. The name Federspiel is derived from falconry which was a very popular leisure time activity among the nobility in medieval times. The falcon stands for the remarkable elegance of these dry white wines. – Roman Horvath MW, Domäne Wachau

About Domäne Wachau

Domäne Wachau, led by Roman Horvath MW and Heinz Frischengruber, has developed into one of the top estates in Austria, with an excellent range of Wachau wines that beautifully reflect origin. The small vineyard plots in the steep terraces along the Danube river are cultivated by vintner families – the true heroes of the estate – through their intensive manual work.

Craftsmanship, sustainability, and the unique biodiversity are the pillars of the vineyards that Domäne Wachau manages. Many of these vineyards are world-famous, including Achleiten, Kellerberg and Singerriedel. The estate is also known for its extensive wine tourism offerings.

Accompany us as we explore the Baroque cellar vaults beneath Dürnstein’s Kellerschlössel, experiencing what makes the Wachau wine region so very unique. At the end of the tour, you sample the Wachau’s regional- and single vineyard wines (the Steinfeder, Federspiel and Smaragd categories) as well as local varietals – discovering what makes them distinct.
