92 points James Suckling
The effusive aromas of white fruits and blossoms draw you into this very elegant and polished Saar riesling. The racy acidity beautifully balances with the touch of sweetness. The steely finish is super straight. Drink or hold. (6/2018) John Gilman

“The Scharzhof QbA bottling is again a lovely example in 2017. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a very pretty blend of white cherries, pear, slate, a touch of petrol and a delicate touch of citrus peel in the upper register. On the palate the wine is fullish, crisp and nicely transparent, with zesty acids, fine focus and very good length and grip on the promising finish. This is one of the most ageworthy ‘estate Rieslings’ produced in all of Germany and the 2017 will once again be a nice, long distance runner. 2018-2040. ” (7/2018)

92 points Mosel Fine Wines:
“The 2017er Scharzhof comes from the Estate’s holdings in the Wiltinger Braunfels, Wiltinger Rosenberg and Saarburger Rausch, and was fermented down to approx. 40 g/l of residual sugar. It offers a beautiful nose of white peach, green apple, flowers, passion fruit, spices and herbs. The wine is stunningly playful and delicately creamy on the palate and leaves a ripe and rich but also delicately zesty feel in the long and ethereal finish. This amazing wine ranks among the finest Scharzhof bottlings ever. 2022-2037.” (06/2018)

About Egon Muller

The famous Saar estate has been in the hands of the Muller family since 1797 and they currently own just over 8 hectares of the stellar Scharzhofberg vinyeard, the Saar’s most qualified contender for the title of “great growth”, challenging the famous sites of the Middle Mosel with ease.

Egon Muller’s single vineyard holding is dominated by Riesling through a small patch is planted to other varieties and he consistently produces wines of incredible purity, line and detail from the slate soils of the famous vineyard. Egon Muller is the sole German member of the Primum Familiae Vini whose other members include Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Vega Sicilia, Torres, Pol Roger, Antinori and Hugel et Fils.

The Mosel Wine Region
The Mosel river snakes its way between dramatically steep, slatey slopes from just south of the ancient Roman city of Trier to Koblenz to the north, where it empties into the Rhine.

The valley is home to many of the world’s most famous Riesling vineyards. The wines are richly fragrant, pale to golden in colour and light-bodied with lively acidity. The slaty soil lends a distinctive taste to wines which range from fine and fruity to earthy or flinty, often with a hint of spritz.
