Garagiste’s first harvest for a sparkling base took place roughly two weeks before the Merricks vineyard table wines, Barney picking with both depth of flavour and freshness in mind. In the shed, fruit was slowly whole-bunch pressed directly to old barriques for a wild ferment with no temperature control. Post-primary it was kept on full solids for eight months.

The secondary fermentation was initiated in bottle in October 2018, and the wine stayed on these lees for 26 months, when it was disgorged with an extra-brut level of 2.5g/L of dosage.

Wearing the lightest hint of colour, this is finely perfumed with a bright, red-fruited nose. The palate has super depth and intensity, and bags of personality. It presents the kind of energy and purity that we expect of Merricks Pinot, with delicate notes of cranberry, white strawberry and florals, with juicy, crunchy freshness.

This is a terrific wine, with far more sophistication than you might expect at this price.

About Us

Garagiste premium Mornington Peninsula wines truly express a sense of the place where they were grown. Focusing on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir we intend to highlight the subtleties of the Peninsula’s different sub-regions with small batches of very limited wines.

Garagiste is the brainchild of Barnaby Flanders.

After leaving Allies Wines in 2003 he embarked on a mission to produce small batch premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay under his own label in his beloved Mornington Peninsula.

Barney loves the sub-regionality to be exploited in Mornington Peninsula, the slight alterations in aspect and soil profile within this small wine producing region provide him with the scaffolding around which he builds his stunning harem of small batch wines.

They are only ever made in small quantities so time is of the essence if you want to explore the world of Garagiste.

Fine Wine Cellars

On the one hand, our role as a merchant of all things wine & spirits could not be simpler. We aim to source the most delicious, the most authentic, and the highest quality products possible from Australia and around the world in order to offer them to our clients. We live or die by how well we perform this task. Of course things are rarely as simple or as easy as they seem. Hunting for wines & spirits is no different. Apart from the months spent travelling, countless days and evenings spent tasting and the outrageous wine expenditure in the name of ‘research’, sourcing quality wine and spirits requires expertise and experience. Understanding the potential of a producer and their products is much more than just a slurp and a spit.
