Local fire chief and Harley-Davidson fancier, Vincent Géantet is above all a terrific winemaker, producing Gevrey which combines raw energy with aromatic precision. Supported by son Fabien, Vincent’s prime concern is to keep his Pinot Noir fruit brilliantly fresh and the purple-stained colours and razor-sharp aromas of his finished wines testify to their complete lack of oxidation. To this end, he practises long cold maceration and vigorous extraction, uses predominantly new oak, handles the wine minimally during élevage and bottles without filtration.

Stand-out wines in the domaine’s large portfolio are the Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes from 65-year-old vines on the appellation’s northern Brochon slope, with its dark phenolics, and the premier cru Poissenot, from a high altitude site, providing the domaine’s tautest and finest scented wine. Like others in the village, Vincent extended his reach north and south beyond Gevrey, adding a velvety Marsannay and intensely perfumed Chambolle-Musigny to his line-up of Gevrey crus and, most recently, a fine village Morey-Saint-Denis and an enticing white Marsannay.

About `Geantet-Pansiot`

Third generation vigneron, Vincent Géantet heads this Gevrey-Chambertin based domaine farming 12 hectares of vines up to 65 years of age, in the North of the Côte de Nuits covering the appellations of Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny and Marsannay. The vineyards are farmed lutte raisonée and fruit is rigorously sorted before aging in 30% new oak for all cuvées from the Bourgogne Rouge through to the Charmes-Chambertin.

All of the cuvées are bottled without fining or filtration. Graceful wines showing aromatic purity are the hallmark of this estate and many wine critics have earmarked Domaine Géantet-Pansiot as a producer to follow closely in the future.
