Gibson Reserve Shiraz is the result of up to 20 individual Shiraz parcel components, which we assess out of barrel for qualities that show particular finesse and structure – the precursors to age-ability. We don’t limit this expression to individual vineyards, but rather build in many layers of complexity through fruit sources from various sites of the Barossa.

One and two tonne open-topped fermenters are used along with other detail-orientated small batch winemaking methods, including hand plunging and basket pressing. The Reserve Shiraz style is led by French oak finesse, with both puncheon and hogshead formats used for ageing.

The result is a wine of deep crimson colour, a fine expression of Barossa Shiraz displaying intense aromas of concentrated dark fruits, aniseed, and hints of mocha. The palate shows richness and power, with lingering layers of concentrated black fruits, dark chocolate and velvety tannins.

This wine is a premium expression of Barossa Shiraz with great finesse and structure, which will develop beautifully with age.

About Gibson Wines

Gibson Wines was established in 1996 and draws on over 45 years of experience of its founder; viticulturist, geologist and winemaker, Rob Gibson.

Surrounding an 1850s Blacksmith’s cottage, Gibson’s home property in Light Pass – Northern Barossa – features a 7 – acre patch of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. These vines are planted under the Gibson-Schulz trellis system, a unique method co-invented by Rob. The vines are alternately planted on a low and high cordon wire, the latter reaching nearly two metres in height.

Alongside these estate vineyards, relationships forged by Rob over four decades with multi-generational Barossa grape growing families, provides Gibson with enviable access to some of the region’s most precious fruit. Crossing all compass points of the region, Gibson’s grower relationships are key. Not only in providing a multitude of complexity in the end wines, but as a means of supporting a sustainable, integrated wine growing community.
