Dark purple vibrant red in colour, the aromas are intensely berry driven intermingled with plum pudding spice and freshly ground coffee. The palate is concentrated and full of primary fruit flavours that are held together by silky tannins and syrupy fruit persistence, a complex and layered wine.

Vineyard: Grown predominantly on ancient red Cambrian soils, this wine is made from a blend of our two
estate vineyards. With clonal and soil diversity between the vineyards, this Shiraz captures the essence of what makes Heathcote a truly world class Shiraz producing wine region.

Harvest: The fruit is hand harvested and whole berry fermented in individual batches to preserve the clonal diversity. French and American oak is used to add structure, elegance and spice. Full of deep dark
concentrated fruit, we add a small amount of Viognier to highlight the existing fruit, adding an extra layer ofcomplexity to the wine.

Cellaring: Enjoy now or be rewarded with careful cellaring for 10+ years
Attributes: Vegan Friendly
Alcohol: 14.5%

About Heathcote Winery

Heathcote Winery’s Cellar Door and Winery are uniquely positioned in the main street of Heathcote. The Cellar Door and adjacent Art Gallery are housed in a restored miners produce store built by Thomas Craven in 1854 to cater for the huge influx of gold miners seeking their fortune.

The winery produced its first vintage in 1981 and now specialises in the production of Shiraz and Viognier reflective of the Heathcote Region but distinctly Heathcote Winery. Shiraz is the cornerstone of Heathcote Winery’s premium wine production, including the highly acclaimed Mail Coach Shiraz and the Single vineyard Slaughterhouse Paddock Shiraz.

Visitors to cellar door may enjoy free wine tastings and a selection of regional gourmet items. Heathcote Winery also offers a grazing lunch option from Saturday to Sunday from 12pm to 3pm. Otherwise just relax and unwind with a glass of wine in our sheltered rustic courtyard.

History
Heathcote Winery, established in 1978, was one of the first commercial wineries in Heathcote. The building dates back to 1854 when Thomas Craven established ‘Craven’s Stores’to cater for the produce needs of the huge influx of gold miners seeking their fortune in the heady gold rush days.

Craven, an entrepreneurial type, also ran a coach service (depicted in our logo) from stables behind Cellar Door, delivering supplies and mail around Central Victoria, hence the significance of the ‘Mail Coach’ range.

In 1997 the winery was purchased by an independent group of wine enthusiasts led by Stephen Wilkins. Stephen and his partners share a passionate commitment to produce wines reflective of the Heathcote Region whilst retaining the winery’s own distinct style. The wines attest to this commitment, delivering concentrated fruit aromas and flavours along with intense colour, and a finishing elegance enhanced by splashes of viognier.

Heathcote Winery is now meeting the demand for wines truly reflective of the region, but with the Winery’s individual stamp of innovation and excellence.

Why Heathcote?
The Central Heathcote area, with its own unique micro-climate, has the ability to produce shiraz styles with power yet elegance, voluptuous fruit flavour when young, tending towards flavours through the dark red fruit spectrum but avoiding stewed fruit characters. Natural tannins seem to find their balance, adding length to the palate.

Winter rains are followed by cold spring nights, a little more rain, and then warm dry conditions through to harvest. The Heathcote red soils, deriving from Cambrian greenstone, are free draining and a touch hungry. Yields are naturally low.

The pioneers of Heathcote have created superb shiraz, reflecting minimal intervention, and the natural attributes of the area have been prominent in the wines. We share this passion to produce great shiraz from our own vineyards, but with an individual handprint that stamps our wine as, Heathcote Winery Heathcote Shiraz.
