We are delighted with this wine with its rich savoury pinot flavours. More red fruit than in prior vintages. Decant or open at least 30 minutes before serving. Will flourish with a few more years bottle age.

This label is reserved for wines which are of exceptional quality and tiny production. The name comes from the camp at Big Hill built in 1875 for the construction of the railway to Beechworth. All that remains is the base of two brick kilns which were used for the construction of the culverts.

About 25% whole bunches were used in the ferment. 14 days on skins with gentle pump overs. Maturation was in French oak with 20% in new oak and the balance in barrels of varying age from a variety of coopers. Minimal intervention is required to maximize pinot characters and to allow the soils and the character of the region to be displayed.

Description

The Indigo Vineyard is located near the hamlet of Everton in the foothills of the Victorian Alps. The region enjoys beautiful views, fine dining, wonderful local produce, historic Beechworth streetscapes and is recognised for outstanding Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The hot days and cool nights, granitic sand and clay loam soils and a location in foothills of the Victorian Alps combine to create an amazing terroir for growing super premium grapes.

Located between Beechworth and Wangaratta, the Indigo Vineyard has 46 hectares planted to 11 different varieties of grapes.

The vineyard soils range from granitic sands to clay loams. Most of the vineyard is undulating North-South and East facing. This ensures maximum light interception, but minimises the harsh afternoon summer sun.
