Josef Chromy Chardonnay 2022 (6 Bottles) Tasmania

SHIPPING INCLUDED AUSTRALIA WIDE

White nectarine and fresh grapefruit with subtle oatmeal characters. Balanced and structured palate with juicy lees complexity. Fresh natural acidity gives focus and length.

Hand-picked and whole bunch pressed directly into barrel. All oak consisted of French barriques (33% new oak, 21% 1 yr, 26% 2 yr and 19% 3 yr old barrels). Eight ferments were created with different yeast strains, including one wild ferment, to draw out textural, fruit, nut and biscuit characters. Some lees stirring towards the end of the ferments to build texture and autolytic charm. Strict barrel selection approximately 8 weeks after primary fermentation ensures that only the finest barrels are retained. After 8-10 months in barrel, the wine is blended, undergoes minimal fining and is sealed under screw-cap to enable the wine to be enjoyed at its optimum.

Pair with full-flavoured fish and rich poultry dishes. Drink now or cellar until 2028.

Description

Awarded among the Top 10 Cellar Doors of Australia – Josef Chromy Wines is located just 15 mins from Launceston CBD and 10 mins from Launceston Airport.

The Josef Chromy Cellar Door Restaurant and Winery is located at Relbia, 10 minutes from the Launceston Airport and 15 minutes from Launceston CBD in northern Tasmania.

Josef Chromy Wines’ 61-hectare (150 acre) vineyard produces a number of varieties of highly sought-after grapes, carefully crafted in our on-site winery. Wines include Sparklings, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris.

Josef Chromy Wines has a state-of-the-art winery at the base of the vineyard at Relbia, just south of Launceston. The modern and minimalist exterior provides a home for some of the best winemaking equipment available. Fruit reception begins with a vibrating hopper that gently shakes the grapes into the destemmer. The grapes are pumped gently into the press through a peristaltic pump, using the same technology that transfers live fish or pumps blood during heart bypass surgery.

A high-tech German press enables juice extraction at low pressures, giving more delicate aromatic juices. All Pinot Noir is fermented in small batch open top fermenters and a pneumatic plunging device, co-developed by Josef, is used to gently plunge the cap and manage the extraction of colour and tannin during the fermentation. All the equipment and processes in the winery are designed to respect the delicate varietal flavours of the high quality, cool-climate Tasmanian fruit.
