An exceptionally defined and concentrated wine with deeply ripe blueberries, cabernet black cherries and plums with wild herbs. The palate has majestically strong and rich tannins with cassis, black-cherry and dark-chocolate flavours, holding the long finish. Drink now to 2045.

This single vineyard wine is made from our dry grown Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 1973, picked in a number of small batches and carefully crafted to make the best Cabernet possible. Small quantities of other complementary varieties are trialled during the final blending to further add to the depth and complexity of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Elegant structure, complexity, depth of quality fruit, balance and longevity are the key goals.

‘Includes 3.9% petit verdot, 2.5% malbec and 1.6% cabernet franc; it spent up to 36 days on skins, matured for 18 months in French barriques (50% new). An exceptional cabernet, as intense as it is elegant with great mouthfeel from superfine tannins. Drink to 2045.’

‘An exceptionally defined and concentrated wine with deeply ripe, cabernet black cherries and plums with roasting herbs and a tarry edge. The palate has majestically strong and rich tannins with black-cherry and dark-chocolate flavours, holding the long finish. A blend of 92% cabernet sauvignon, 3.9% petit verdot, 2.5% malbec and 1.6% cabernet franc. Drink now. Screw cap.’

18.7/20 points Barry Weinman, The Western Suburbs Weekly, October 2019
‘This is so seductive, with supple red berry fruit and silky, savoury tannins and oak. Yet behind the veneer, there is powerful fruit that just needs time to unwind. Souring acidity adds life, while the cedary oak adds a pencil shavings note on the very finish. Full of joy, this is a brilliant wine.’

About Juniper Estate

Juniper is a producer of premium wines in Margaret River, the heart of the remote, environmentally pristine winegrowing area lying in the south-west corner of Western Australia, 270km south of Perth. We are fortunate that Margaret River is where it is and, with its maritime influence, ancient soils and beautiful landscape is perfectly suited to the production of great wines.

The Juniper ‘Estate’ vineyard (formerly Wright’s) was planted in 1973 and, together with Vasse Felix, Cape Mentelle, Cullen, Moss Wood and Woodlands, is one of the founding vineyards of the region.

Juniper was established in 1998 by the late Roger Hill and his wife, Gillian Anderson, with the intention of producing wines which rank among the best to come from Margaret River and beyond.

Since 2017 Gillian and Roger’s sons, Nick and Tom, have run the business with the same ambition to make great wines from our own vineyards.

Juniper’s outlook combines the tenets of heritage, authenticity and original thinking with a view to producing wines of elegance and sophistication that showcase the best of the Margaret River region. We grow what we make and make what we grow, all from our distinctive vineyards in Wilyabrup and Karridale.

The sites are exciting in their differences, but their farming is united by sustainable and organic practices resulting in the best fruit possible that reflects each vineyard’s idiosyncrasies. Applications of compost from spent marc, sheep manure and the use of inter-row crops to fix nitrogen are all small examples of how we help sustain the natural balance of our land.

The wines we make reflect a combination of their place, vintage and variety, and are expressions of our passion, to be shared and enjoyed in good company.

A deep respect for the history of the region, and the pursuit to push boundaries, drives our outlook in creating wines that reflect their time and place. This begins with careful and thorough manual intervention in the vineyard and attentive yet minimal intervention in the winery.

Important to our philosophy is retention of the individuality of each parcel of fruit, with a block-by-block approach to their winemaking. This enables us control in blending, using complementary parcels to preserve the uniqueness and personality of our distinctive Margaret River sites. Oak maturation is used to enhance complexity and contribute to the refinement of the wines.
