Two-thirds of this is raised in demi-muids, one-third in a small foudre. As ever, this really shines in a warm vintage, the vineyard’s natural austerity softened slightly by the conditions.
There is pure citrus fruit on the entry, wrapped around smoky, graphite reduction. Very fresh, focused and almost austere, this is concentrated with a slight sweetness and a mentholated fresh finish. Drink 2021-2026.
Like the Milly-Lamartine, sulfur dominates the nose today. Otherwise the punchy and caressing medium-bodied flavors possess an attractive mouth feel that carries over to the lemon, clean and bone dry finish that is on the austere side today. Still, I suspect this will better harmonize with a few years of age.

The Clos du Four has been vinified on its own since Dominique Lafon first got involved in the Mâconnais in 1999. Situated on clay soils that mitigate the effect of hot vintages, this is wonderfully fresh and well balanced, with plenty of zip, flavours of passion fruit and grapefruit and the faintest whisper of oak spice.
