Shiraz is a bit of a dark horse in Gippsland. The cool, coastal climate is written all over this aromatic wine – blueberry and black plum fruits, mellow tannins in a mediumweight style. A delicious expression of cool climate Shiraz.

About Lightfoot Wines

The Lightfoot family first planted a small vineyard in 1995 in the pristine Gippsland Lakes region and made small batches of wine each vintage for the enjoyment of family, friends and a handful of local wine enthusiasts.  Since then their family business has grown, and the second generation of family, sons Rob and Tom Lightfoot, now manage the business.

Our wines are now being made by Alastair Butt and Tom Lightfoot.

Alastair brings more than 25 years of winemaking experience to the winery, working previously in the Yarra Valley and Hunter Valley.   After completing a Viticultural Science and Wine Production degree, Tom has worked a number of vintages in wineries throughout Australia and the Northern Hemisphere. Tom now manages the Myrtle Point Vineyard and assists Alastair in winemaking.

The Gippsland wine region defies easy classification. It is a zone under the Australian GI system, rather than a region. The area is large and viticultural areas dispersed, however through all regions of Gippsland Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the predominate grape varieties.

About three hours east of Melbourne, The Gippsland Lakes District is located between the Great Dividing Range and Bass Strait. The region is famed for the large areas of National Park and State Forrest, as well as the Gippsland Lakes System. The region has a lower annual rainfall than much of Gippsland and enjoys coastal climate which provides sea breezes throughout the growing season. This region’s cool semi-maritime climate has proven to be a particularly well suited for Pinot Noir and cool-climtae styles of Chardonnay and Shiraz.
