95 points Mike Bennie – The Wine Front

Bright straw colour with a watery hue. Elevated scents of ripe pear, peach and dried honey are married to red apple, quince and wet stone notes. Intense ripe pear and red apple flavours draped in dried honey are intermeshed with quince, subtle lees characters and wet stone. Mid weighted, quite full and round it finishes dry with a lick of freshness and a long aftertaste.

The 2018 wine was outstanding, this comes to the table with the same distinction and quality. A mix of white grapes of local origin to Duoro, here. So much sea spray in this wine, saline minerality in spades. It’s fine and tense, pure and scintillating, energetic and so damn refreshing.

Electric in its shift across the palate, curls into every corner with its tang and vitality, bristling with cool acidity and the crunch of a young green apple. And then, that saltiness. Oh yes, that saltiness. And how it lingers and lingers. Fantastic, compelling white wine.

WINE REGION – Douro, Portugal
In the Douro region where there are numerous varieties planted in different types of terraces, slopes or flat areas, schist is the common denominator, vineyards based on schist slopes that have no end. This is the starting point for the Xisto Ilimitado, a search that tries to express the different wine-growing areas which have their own character, regardless of the varieties to which it refers. Different plots of vineyards that have similar characteristics Zrom Meda area in Douro Suprerior where mica schist soils are predominant.

About Luís Seabra Vinhos, Douro Valley in Portgual

Luís Seabra Vinhos began producing wines under his own label in 2013 and today gaining fame from increased exposure throughout Australia. The Luís Seabra wines are often blends of several grape varieties, many of which most Australians would not have heard.

Some of these varieties fell into obscurity because they were low yielding, disease-prone or otherwise troublesome. They are being rediscovered by Luís. Some of the wines were partly fermented in lagares, the open stone fermenters traditionally used for port, where they are also foot-trodden to crush the berries and mix the fermenting juice.

Explore the Douro Valley with Luís
Watch Luís exploring the remote corners of the Douro Valley and discovering the old vines from which he makes his wines from. They are marked by exceptional length and concentration of flavour. Using French and large Eastern European oak barrels only for maturation and in some cases for fermentation, preserving the character of the grape and expressing the vineyard is the priority.
