Oliver’s Taranga ‘Chica’ Mencia Rosé 2023 (6 Bottles) McLaren Vale

$172.00

AUSTRALIA WIDE SHIPPING INCLUDED

Like eating a watermelon right down to the white bits, this dry Rose is refreshing as. Mencia (say it with an attractive Spanish lisp: MEN-thee-AH) is a new variety to Australia, and is delicious with cured meats and chocolatey desserts.

Salt cured watermelon, fresh lime and hibiscus flower, gin botanicals, turkish delight and a touch of fairy floss.

Flavour bursts from the glass, prosciutto wrapped rockmelon, watermelon mojito, limes, loads of round texture and a savoury dry crisp finish.

Mencia is a native variety of Spain, in particular the Bierzo region in the northwest of the country. Oliver’s Taranga are the first to plant it in Australia. We decided to get our (mostly female) cellar door team on board to learn about the winemaking process – and as such the ‘Chica’ was born! Our winemaker Corrina uses a fermentation technique called ‘Carbonic Maceration’, which results in a lovely aroma & texture on the wine.

With 300 acres of premium grapevines on the Taranga property, the Oliver family has over 50 blocks representing different grape varieties, clones, soil types & vine ages. Each vintage, different varieties & blocks will show their strength and from this has been born the ‘SMALL BATCH’ range. These wines have been handcrafted to speak of both the variety and the vintage in which they have been produced.

About Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards

Six generations of stubborn, competitive growers and one equally spirited winemaker- that’s the Oliver family. Living smack bang in the middle of McLaren Vale, they flourish on producing perfect parcels of fruit on their 100 hectare ‘Taranga’ property. Their collection of small batch, handcrafted wines speak of both the variety and vintage, capturing a time and place, while continuing to document the family’s ongoing 180 year relationship with the land.

While we have had a long love affair with McLaren Vale’s well known varieties, we also work with some more emerging grapes. On our vineyard you will find Mataro, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Vermentino, Fiano, Tempranillo, Mencia, Touriga, Sagrantino, and White Frontignac. While we only make wines from grapes grown exclusively on our Taranga vineyard, we also sell our premium grapes to a number of other wineries like d’Arenberg, Penfolds, Wirra Wirra and Seppeltsfield each year.
