Deep, brilliant red. A deeply perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red/blue fruits, incense and vanilla. A sexy floral nuance builds as the wine opens up. Offers sweet, concentrated raspberry, boysenberry, candied lavender and spice cake flavours that steadily become more lively as the wine stretches out. Displays sharp delineation and emphatic, spicy thrust on an impressively long, floral-dominated finish that’s framed by supple, slow-building tannins.

The old Grenache and Syrah vines that produce this Pierre Amadieu Gigondas Romane Machotte are deeply rooted in the chalk and clay slopes of the family estate, where the scent of the “garrigue” that grew there for centuries still perfumes the vines that have replaced it. Early in October, the hand picking starts under the warm autumn sun, the moment when the grapes are just starting to be perfectly ripe.

The “cuvaison” is long (about 30 days) in order to extract only the best from each grape variety – and to allow the spirit and the traditions of our family terroir to be expressed. A traditional ageing of 12 months, partly in two year-old barrels and partly in oak casks, allows a blending of the delicate oak flavours with the subtle natural micro-oxygenation of the wine.

About Pierre Amadieu

Our domain is located on hillsides mainly exposed North -Northwest between 230m and 500m of altitude and spreads over 137 hectares (338 acres), surrounded with 200 hectares of garrigue and holm oaks. We are almost the only owner of these beautiful protected lands of the North-Eastern part of the appellation Gigondas.

This exposure gives a perfect aeration to vines and avoids an excessive period of sunshine in full summer. It brings our wines freshness and allows a longer grapes’ maturation without risking drought or bitterness.

CellarHand is a fine-wine importer and wholesale distributor, with a portfolio featuring some of the most sought-after estates of Germany, Austria, France and Italy, as well some of the greatest producers from Australia and New Zealand. Our ethos has always been to build a portfolio as you’d construct the perfect wine list. We work with small, family producers who express the best of their regions. The wines we sell are the wines we enjoy, and the people who make them are like family to us. They are wines that taste of where they come from, and though they’re steeped in history and stamped with the signature of their terroir, they’re more than ever relevant – and desirable – to the Australian diner of today.
