Clare Valley Shiraz may not be as renowned as those from McLaren Vale or Barossa, but the region produces a spectrum of consistent wines from the variety, the best of which are balanced and approachable. The ‘Eastside’ is delicious to drink upon release and will reward cellaring for next 7-15 years. Try with smoked brisket.

Colour: Dark cherry red.

Aroma: Dark cherry, blueberry, raspberry and chocolate, intermingled with subtle spices and earthy graphite notes.

Year: 2018 was an extremely good red vintage for Clare, slightly warmer than average, but vineyards by and large achieved a great balance of fruit and acid. As a single vineyard wine, Eastside is an excellent showcase for the unique style of shiraz grown from our Polish Hill River Estate. Wild Fermented in open vats using compressed air for gentle cap management to ensure a healthy fermentation without over extraction.

Palate: The medium palate weight and silky texture profile are hallmark ‘Eastside’. Black cherry and blueberry fruit point to the wine’s delicious acid structure, whilst hints of aniseed and lightly charred oak provide interest. The long lasting yet soft tannin profile is accompanied perfectly by the bright fruit core to create a balanced finish.

Pikes Wines was first established in 1984 by brothers Andrew and Neil Pike, and continues to be family owned and operated to this day.

The Pikes Estate is comprised of approximately 100 hectares of rolling slopes in the historic and picturesque Polish Hill River sub region on the eastern side of the Clare Valley. The climate in this area is considerably cooler and the soils are also quite unique to the rest of the region. These attributes impart distinctive flavours and aromas to the wines from the Polish Hill River area.
Whilst we are best known for Riesling, we have been growing Shiraz and Cabernet for 35 years and have 20 different grape varieties planted on our estate, producing a wide range of wine styles to suit all tastes.

Our Tasting Room is open daily and offers a 40-minute seated tasting of five of our estate grown wines, hosted by a dedicated member of our tasting room team.
The Pikes Tasting Room and adjoining Slate Restaurant are housed in a new building, which boasts a contemporary design combined with traditional materials to create a linger-worthy tasting and dining experience.

On Thursday to Sunday, Slate Restaurant comes to life, offering a modern Australian menu that changes and evolves constantly, focusing on seasonal produce and showcasing the best of the Clare Valley.
The Tasting Room and Slate have a seamless connection with our existing on-site brewery, Pikes Beer Company, which includes an alfresco area that offers a relaxed Garden menu on weekends.
