A few hours skin contact, some old oak, and a jolly good hard pressing, to wring out some more flavour. Good Gris. Ripe brown pear, vanilla and white flowers, something like aniseed or liquorice in the mix too. It’s a little bit spicy, soft and cool feeling, quite juicy, subtle pear skin texture, and finishes well. Slight smokiness about it, though working as a positive.
90 points. Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

Punt Road Pinot Gris is a single-vineyard Pinot Gris from Napoleone vineyard blocks 15 and 16. The key attributes of Punt Road house-style remain: harmonious, refreshing and light on its feet. There’s pear on the nose, some spiciness and fig notes.

Plenty of texture from high-solids, natural barrel ferments (15%; old oak) and regular lees stirring. Crispness, too, from 85% cool tank ferment with an Alsatian strain yeast. It has a bright, clean palate with a satisfying savoury/phenolic kick at the end to keep the wine together.

About Punt Road Wines, Yarra Valley

Everything we do comes from our home in Coldstream…ideas are born here, the grapes are grown here, and our wines are crafted and shared here. As a family owned vineyard and winery, we aim to create wines that reflect the heritage of our site, and the independent, creative energy of the Yarra Valley. Winemaker Tim Shand guides the path of fruit from more than 150 acres of estate-grown vineyards.

Our Range….
Winemaker Tim Shand selects fruit from over 150 acres of estate-grown vineyards on our 300 acre farm. We’ve planted several varieties over the past 27 years to best suit this site including Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Gamay Noir, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. These varieties shine in different ways across these two distinctive expressions.

Our Philosophy…
“We only produce wines from our own vineyard in Coldstream, a deliberate, and to us, significant decision. It gives us the opportunity to put all our focus on our one patch of dirt and provides us with a greater understanding of our site along with 13 vintages of cellar memory to draw on.”  Tim Shand, Head Winemaker

Winemaking Technique…
Using minimalist intervention winemaking techniques allows us to deliver wines of outstanding quality, highlighting season variations.

They are wines that taste of where they come from, and though they’re steeped in history and stamped with the signature of their terroir, they’re more than ever relevant – and desirable – to the Australian diner of today.
