Three tonnes of low-cropping, small berried fruit was hand-picked from Rows 1-33 of McFadden’s vineyard at Booroolite, southeast of Mansfield. It was crushed, pressed and then fermented cool, with about 30% of juice fermented in 3y/o French oak barriques and extended time on lees until bottling, increasing the wine’s complexity and texture; delicious aromas of ripe pears, cumquat zest and spice are the signature notes of this wine and the round flavours will develop richness and texture as it matures in bottle.

Description

One of the things which Ros has always loved about the winemaking life is the ability to travel and experience the culture of wines (and food) elsewhere in the world – over the years she has taken opportunities to travel within New Zealand, France, Germany and a little of Italy, several times, but especially to Alsace, Baden, the Mosel, Rheingau and Pfalz, whose wines strengthened her passion for riesling and gewürztraminer and stimulated her interest in pinot gris. She has also visited the northern American wine regions of BC, New York State, Oregon and Washington.

After graduating from Roseworthy at the end of 1981, Ros returned home to Mansfield to help her parents, Robert and Vivienne Ritchie, establish their winery at Delatite. There she was the winemaker for the next 25 years, growing the range of wines to include the classic aromatics, methode champenoise sparkling, and red varietals and blends; many of these wines gained consistent, critical acclaim both nationally and internationally, with 13 trophies, 39 Gold, 67 Silver and over 210 Bronze medals.

In 2008, Ros and her husband John established their own winemaking enterprise and eponymous label in Mansfield and after 6 years, moved their winery to new purpose-built cellars on Barwite Vineyards on Long Lane near Mansfield.

Ros Ritchie Wines is proud to be a wholly local and Australian owned family wine business.
