In 2003 Skillogalee acquired 30 hectares of vineyard adjoining the existing property. While this acquisition mainly expanded our supply of mature Riesling, Cabernet and Shiraz, there is a hectare of Chardonnay, which was planted over 30 years ago.

These grapes are allowed to reach optimum flavour ripeness before being harvested. The juice is fermented on medium solids in French Oak Hogsheads, adding further layers to the fruit characters and fresh acidity. During the wine’s maturation in barrel, lees are stirred daily to introduce textural creaminess to the palate.
Vintage

With cool and dry weather, the 2021 vintage in the Clare Valley produced lovely fruit with excellent varietal character and natural acidity. The cool growing season was preceded by late-winter and early-spring rains which allowed for good spring growth on the vines. This was followed by below average rainfall and dry conditions for the remainder of the season, resulting in a vintage that produced beautiful and classic Clare wines.

Displaying a pale straw hue with green tints, the wine shows concentrated aromas of pineapple, poached pear and stone fruit. There are also hints of white flowers and nougat, with a flinty complexity on the nose. The palate is generous, intense and elegantly textured.

The tropical fruit flavours of honeydew melon, cantaloupe and kiwifruit are seamlessly integrated with the lemon curd and buttered toastiness of winemaking influences. The acidity is well defined and balanced. This wine provides refreshing length, whilst finishing powerfully.
