We believe in the beauty of connections at Te Kano. Between family and friends, wine and food, grapevines and the soil. Our Estate vineyards are testament to this, with organic practices and an extensive Kōwhai rejuvenation project strengthening the web of ecology and our links with
the land we love.
Vintage & Winemaking Notes
Spring and Summer were extremely hot and dry. A late season period of cool weather slowed ripening, allowing additional time for flavour development in the weeks before harvest. From our Estate vineyards in Bannockburn, fruit wash and picked and fermented in vineyard parcels. Maturation in French oak barrels took place over the following 10 months before blending and bottling of selected batches.
Aromas of black doris plum, ripe cherry, red berries and spice, with notes of wild thyme. Juicy red berry and cherry flavours burst into the mouth, while vanilla, spice and toasty oak add layers of complexity. Fine, supple tannins line the palate and lead it to a long and elegant finish.
This wine should be matched with great company. If eating, try it with earthy mushroom or smokey, savoury meats
Like all who come here, the Lloyd Family fell in love with the other- worldly beauty of Central Otago – the land and the lifestyle. The seed of a new future was sown; three vineyards, each planted with site specific varietals — including Central Otago’s signature Pinot Noir — allow our talented winemakers the luxury to select and blend only the most outstanding fruit each season.
Committed to rejuvenating the land and a sustainable future throughre-planting and excellent stewardship, the Te Kano is creating enduring sensory wine and lifestyle experiences which could come from nowhere else but Central Otago. Te Kano (Māori for seed), is for those who appreciate the rarest combination of layered elegance and sublime natural quality.
