SHIPPING INCLUDED ONLY IN VICTORIA. WINE IS NOT AVAILABLE TO BE DELIVERED OUTSIDE VIC.

The bold, yet elegant 2016 Aberfeldy has a vibrant magenta hue with aromas of dark berries, cherry, plum and chocolate accompanied by clove, nutmeg and vanilla characters derived by the oak. The palate is full bodied with dark berry conserve flavours and firm tannin generated from the perfect growing season leading in to vintage.

The wine has persistent length of sweet fruit and oak, with power, elegance and great finesse. The Aberfeldy is best enjoyed with red meat dishes with complementary sauces/gravies and can be kept for up to 20 years in good conditions. We recommend decanting, allowing at least one hour prior to serving for maximum enjoyment.

Synonymous with quality, our flagship wine has earnt and maintains a Langtons Classification of ‘Excellent’ and has been referred to as “Clare Valley’s Grange”.

The 2016 vintage will long be acclaimed as one of the best on record. Ideal winter rains, perfect flowering conditions and timely spring rainfall without frost placed vineyards in good stead ahead of a warm temperate summer. Sections of the two best Shiraz blocks of the vintage were hand-selected by our team and ripened steadily to perfect maturity. Components of the final blend were fermented to dryness on skins and left for 14 days before being pressed. All pressings were returned to the wine for added structure and to improve ageing potential.

24 months of ageing in a mixture of new American and French oak hogsheads followed before blending, fining and bottling. The wine is aged further in bottle prior to release.

Description

Following an apprenticeship under the guidance of Mick Knappstein (Mr Mick) and winemaking positions at Leasingham and Quelltaler, Tim and his wife Pam Goldsack established Tim Adams Wines in 1986. Passionate about the Clare Valley, Tim and Pam source fruit from their own vineyards and those of the best local growers from all areas of the valley. Led by the iconic Aberfeldy Shiraz, Tim Adams Wines focus their attention on selecting Clare Valley grapes, for their authentic varietal and regional characters.

Tim Adams Wines was originally born of a partnership between Tim and Pam and local coopers, Bill and Jill Wray, in 1984.

The business was to make wine and small oak casks. This first year fell in the middle of a grape shortage, but fortunately the budding company was able to beg 10 tonnes of Shiraz from a good friend and neighbour. 1986 saw the first release of wine under the ‘Adams and Wray’ label, but the partnership was later dissolved in 1987, with the young couples choosing to focus on their respective passions. The families are still good friends to this day.

1987 continued to be an eventful year for the newly named Tim Adams Wines, with the purchase of the current winery site at Warenda Road in Clare and arrival of daughter Frances. Cellar door was opened and the first grapes crushed on site the following year. The decades that followed brought with them a natural evolution of the company, the physical site and the wines themselves. These years of hard work, passion and curiosity have resulted in a progressive family winery that is committed to creating elegant wines, without forgetting its obligation to the Australian wine industry, environment and wider community.

Tim Adams Wines now has a presence in all major international markets and is the constant recipient of awards, reviews and accolades both in Australia and overseas.

In 2016 Tim was recognised as one of Australia’s top ten iconic winemakers in the book – Ten Apostles – Stories of Australia’s Iconic Winemakers by David Aylward and Paul Ashton.
