87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot. This new bottling is the product of Voyager’s clonal trials and learnings. The first release is dominated by two of the newer Bordeaux clones: SA125 Cabernet Sauvignon and Q45 Merlot. Both of these clones were selected for their vibrant red-to-black fruit notes and fine tannins. The vines were planted on gravel loam soils in the most northerly stretches of Voyager Estate.

The two varieties were hand-harvested and fermented separately in a combination of open and static steel and concrete fermenters with varying cap management. Fermentations lasted 14 days (mostly, with one component seeing a further 26 days extended skin contact). Maturation was in tight-grained French oak (45% new) for 15 months. It’s a bright, medium bodied, plummy and pure Cabernet with plenty of fine tannins and a good lick of nettle and earthy complexity on the finish.

“Cocoa, baking spices, mint nougat, black fruit, bay leaf. It’s dark and chocolaty, ripe cocoa and gravel tannin profile, blackcurrant and currant, certainly no shortage of dark chocolate and tobacco, and quite firm acidity on a finish of good length, glimmers of red fruit coming through. Modern it may well be, but better with a couple more years on it, I reckon.” 93 Points, Gary Walsh, The Winefront

About Us

Voyager Estate is one of the founding wine estates in Margaret River, conceived by Michael Wright—a farmer and regional pioneer.

Established in 1978, in 2018 Voyager Estate celebrated 40 years since our original plantings. All our wines are 100% estate grown, made and bottled, and reflect the unique qualities of our place in Stevens Valley with its undulating slopes, warm summers and cooling maritime breezes.

We are one of Australia’s most innovative producers of world-class Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon and by 2023 we’ll be Certified Organic.

Our aim is to shine a light on what makes our unique place in Margaret River so special. Both through how we grow and make our wine, and how we share the experience of it with every visitor that walks through our door.

Fine Wine Cellars

On the one hand, our role as a merchant of all things wine & spirits could not be simpler. We aim to source the most delicious, the most authentic, and the highest quality products possible from Australia and around the world in order to offer them to our clients. We live or die by how well we perform this task. Of course things are rarely as simple or as easy as they seem. Hunting for wines & spirits is no different. Apart from the months spent travelling, countless days and evenings spent tasting and the outrageous wine expenditure in the name of ‘research’, sourcing quality wine and spirits requires expertise and experience. Understanding the potential of a producer and their products is much more than just a slurp and a spit.
