Our ‘Old School’ Chardonnay is from specific vineyard blocks in Mt Barker (the 2019 being predominately from our Langton vineyard block 3 & block 20). We consciously let this fruit get a little riper than that selected for our Styx Gully Chardonnay while still retaining a good fine acidity. After crushing and pressing, all the juice went to barrel for fermentation; half was new French oak; the balance being once/twice used. It all goes through malolactic fermentation to produce a complex, well textured and well flavoured wine.

COLOUR
Bright with a light straw colour.

AROMA
Quite aromatic, it has a beautifully perfumed nose with gorgeous aromas of peachy fruit and rockmelon predominating, all complexed by the sweet nutty characters from the French oak.

PALATE
This is a well flavoured Chardonnay with a beautifully fine structure. The lovely stone fruit flavours are enhanced by the cashew nut characters, all very well integrated after nearly 7 months on lees. Having all gone through malo, it already has that extra layer of complexity and the “crème brulee” like flavours sit well with nectarine fruit characters with the fine seam of delicate acidity contributing its long flavoursome finish.
