The 2018 vintage was ‘sublime’; we enjoyed perfect conditions over the entire growing season and ripening period with no untoward weather events; no disease pressure, no bird damage…. a dream season that we’d love to be able to dial up every year!

Our Styx Gully is 100% Mt Barker grown; all the fruit is from our best blocks of Chardonnay off our Langton vineyard. Some parcels were handpicked and whole bunch pressed, with the balance of the fruit picked at night with low overnight temperatures and processed promptly at the winery. Our Styx is all barrel fermented (50% new for the 2018) with no malolactic fermentation; the result being a complex, but still fruit driven, style of Chardonnay.

COLOUR
Bright, light gold; very pale straw.

AROMA
Quite peachy with ripe honeydew melon aromas, gorgeous creamy cashew nut characters with some very subtle tropical notes.

PALATE
A very subtle but beautifully flavoured Chardonnay that has the most wonderful palate; it is textural, well rounded and still delicate and its gentle acidity gives its good length of flavour. The lees contact post fermentation has contributed to its great palate and the oak has contributed also, but in a very understated way. With its subtle melon fruit flavours and crème brulee characters, our 2018 Styx Gully is delightful drinking now and will continue to improve with further bottle age.
