VIOGNIER 2020
Autumn in Wrattonbully means dewy mornings, soft mists and warm sun on ripe grapes – perfect for ‘Botrytis cinerea’ and the naturally alluring Viognier grape to link and create the golden nectar that becomes FSW. The flavours of the Botrytis, offering opulent flavours of Viognier have great synergy with the richness of apricots, peaches and spice. Exotic, luscious, long and elegant, this wine is an experience to be shared.

Tasting Note
Aromas of intense honeysuckle, musk and vanilla with notes of lemon thyme and ginger. The palate, with high residual sugar, is long and luscious with opulent flavours of stone fruit and spice. The balance is perfect, delicately poised between sweetness and acidity with a memorable, lingering finish.

Terroir & Site
Autumn in Wrattonbully means dewy mornings, soft mists and warm sun on ripe grapes – perfect conditions for ‘Botrytis cinerea’, a special kind of fungus that intensifies the sweetness level and adds flavour complexity to wine. When combined with the naturally alluring Viognier grape, it creates a golden nectar that becomes FSW.

Delicious with tarte Tatin and cinnamon ice cream, Baklava or vegan raspberry cheesecake.

About Yalumba

While the Barossa is our home, we draw on the varied climates and soil types across Australia to make wines grown in some of the country’s finest wine regions.

The Yalumba story started with Samuel Smith venturing across the seas from England to a small town called Angaston in South Australia. He founded Yalumba in 1849, planting the first vine under moonlight with his son, Sidney. His bold, pioneering spirit has passed through the generations, influencing each of Yalumba’s proprietors throughout the years; Sidney Smith, Walter Smith, and Wyndham Hill-Smith, all the way through to our fifth generations proprietor today, Robert Hill-Smith..

Robert led Yalumba into the modern era by cementing our reputation as an internationally-focused and innovative business within the Australian wine industry. He pioneered Viognier in Australia, established Australia’s First Families of Wine and launched Yalumba’s most prestigious wine — The Caley Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz, honouring his great uncle Fred Caley Smith. Robert’s family carries on the legacy set in place by Samuel Smith, continuing to experiment and showcase the best the Barossa has to offer.

Yalumba operates the Southern Hemisphere’s only fully operational Cooperage, crafting bespoke oak barrels that elevate the wines aged within them. Our Nursery is a global leader in wine innovation, growing, evaluating and supplying quality grape vines to the Australian wine industry.
