About Domäne Wachau

We are so thrilled to share the news that Domane Wachau has been crowned Falstaff Magazine’s ‘Winemaker of the Year 2024’ as part of the most recent celebrations at Vie Vinum.

Domäne Wachau, led by Roman Horvath MW and Heinz Frischengruber, has developed into one of the top estates in Austria, with an excellent range of Wachau wines that beautifully reflect origin. The small vineyard plots in the steep terraces along the Danube river are cultivated by vintner families – the true heroes of the estate – through their intensive manual work.

Craftsmanship, sustainability, and the unique biodiversity are the pillars of the vineyards that Domäne Wachau manages. Many of these vineyards are world-famous, including Achleiten, Kellerberg and Singerriedel. The estate is also known for its extensive wine tourism offerings.

Accompany us as we explore the Baroque cellar vaults beneath Dürnstein’s Kellerschlössel, experiencing what makes the Wachau wine region so very unique. At the end of the tour, you sample the Wachau’s regional- and single vineyard wines (the Steinfeder, Federspiel and Smaragd categories) as well as local varietals – discovering what makes them distinct.

Estate chief Roman Horvath MW and winemaker Heinz Frischengruber have mobilised and energised some 250 small growers into growing outstanding, balanced crops of ripe, healthy grapes across the valley.

CellarHand

CellarHand is a fine-wine importer and wholesale distributor, with a portfolio featuring some of the most sought-after estates of Germany, Austria, France and Italy, as well some of the greatest producers from Australia and New Zealand. Our ethos has always been to build a portfolio as you’d construct the perfect wine list. We work with small, family producers who express the best of their regions. The wines we sell are the wines we enjoy, and the people who make them are like family to us. They are wines that taste of where they come from, and though they’re steeped in history and stamped with the signature of their terroir, they’re more than ever relevant – and desirable – to the Australian diner of today.
