Fass 4 is the quintessential expression of a Veltliner made in the classic way; neither a lightweight nor a baroque monument.

It is savoury, animating, full of pleasure and joy. For more than thirty years these attributes have been appreciated by a myriad of Veltliner-devotees throughout the world.

About Weingut Bernhard Ott Wines

The Ott family was been producing wine since 1889 in the region of Wagram in Lower Austria, just to the East of the triangle of Kremstal, Kamptal and Wachau. The estate has around 28 hectares of vineyards located around Feuersbrunn and Engabrunn and Bernhard Ott now runs the domaine since taking over the reigns from his father in 1995. The vineyards are farmed according to biodynamic principles and 90% are planted to Grüner Veltliner with the remaining 10% being Riesling. Bernhards wines are pure, textured and driven and has quickly become a cult figure in Austria receiving the country’s highest honour, the Falstaff Winemaker of the Year in 2008.”

Bordered by Hungary and the Czech Republic, the wine lands of Austria are celebrated for their energetic, precise white wines and characterful reds. The famous regional triangle of Wachau, Kremstal and Kamptal lead the charge but many other small regions are snapping at their heels. Riesling and Grüner Veltliner are the kings here but many other varieties are permitted including Weissburgunger (Pinot Blanc), Welschriesling and Chardonnay and Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Franc in the reds. Wine styles run on a similar basis to the German wine classification with the exception of the Wachau which has three additional classifications for dry wines increasing in richness in the following order – Steinfeder, Federspeil and Smaragd.
