The warmer and dry growing season has imparted a remarkable fruit intensity to our 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon. Dominant flavours of ripe blackberries, succulent plums, and dark cherries create a rich and compelling profile.

This elegant wine features well-structured tannin that provide a robust backbone, culminating in a smooth, velvety finish. Due to the depth of tannin, we held back releasing this wine to allow for 4 years of bottle ageing.

Perfect for pairing with food, it complements grilled lamb, hearty beef stew, or a classic roast beef beautifully.

100% Hand picked Cabernet Sauvignon on 19 Mar 2019. De-stemmed (15% whole bunch) and basket-pressed. Fermented and matured in a combination of aged french oak barrels (20% new hogs-heads) for 12 months.

Situated at 150m above sea level, planted in the early 1980s. Similar to the Homeblock, the Melba block vines are all cared for by hand, 100% cane pruned to ensure best quality fruit is grown and hand harvested.

About Steels Gate Wines

Steels Gate Wines is led by co-owners and vignerons Matthew Davis and Brad Atkins, who bring over 15 years of experience in the wine industry. Matthew manages viticulture across the estate’s two vineyard blocks, while Brad oversees the restaurant and cellar door at their Dixons Creek property.

Both come together throughout the year for wine production. Steels Gate is committed to environmental sustainability, employing dry-grown, minimal intervention practices, including organic fungicide use and no herbicides or pesticides. Their Home Block Vineyard, planted in the late 1970s, was revived after being purchased in 2009.

In 2018, they expanded by acquiring a Dixons Creek vineyard, adding Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and more to their offerings.
