Colour:
Deep ruby with a light violet hue.

Nose:
Fruits of the forest nougat and spice – cinnamon, nutmeg and powdered ginger.

Palate:
Blood plum and blackberry fruit is carried and lengthened by gentle mocha and bramble undertones. The length and persistence of the flavour on the palate is testament to the pedigree of this North Barossa beauty.

Style:
A full-bodied red wine that shows both freshness and length. The rich flavours of this wine pair nicely with chargrilled meats and vegetables, smoked ribs or savoury beef-based stew. A strong but mellow cheddar would also work well. This wine is drinking well now but could cellar well for a further 3 to 6 years.

General Ron Grey was a distinguished and much revered Australian soldier (1948-83) who became Commissioner Federal Police (1983-88). A graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon, he served on active service in Korea (1952-53) where he was wounded in action. In 1965 he saw active service in Borneo where he was Mentioned in Dispatches (MID).

In 1969-70 he commanded the 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment on its second operational tour in South Vietnam for which service he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO). He was made an Officer in The Order of Australia in 1983 for his service to the Australian Army as a senior commander. In 1983 General Grey was appointed Commissioner, Australian Federal Police for a period of five years.

General Grey was known as a ‘Soldiers General’; he led his soldiers with wisdom, care and respect. He was tough and demanding but always fair; he had the human touch. He passed at age 91 on 20th January 2022. This wine honours General Ron Grey’s service to the nation.
