Description
Our Kingston Echelon range showcases some of the best fruit we bring into the winery each vintage. Only wines of exceptional fruit vibrancy and flavour intensity are selected for Echelon, wines that have superb drinkability now as well as the ability to age beautifully.
It was in the 1990’s that Bill Moularadellis, Kingston’s founder and chief winemaker, pioneered Petit Verdot in the Riverland after noticing that wines that contained the variety stood out with exceptional colour, vibrancy and weight. It has since become Kingston’s signature variety and our Petit Verdots have gone on to win numerous trophies and gold medals around the world.
Petit Verdot is a late ripening variety (the name translates to ‘the little green one’) and struggles to ripen in its European homeland. We have extensive plantings in deep sandy soils on limestone adjacent to the winery, where the grapes are able to reach full ripeness and intensity.
This elegant Petit Verdot displays layers of bright berry fruit and herbs on the nose which follow through onto the palate which, along with well integrated oak, gives way to a generous finish.
