I think it’s made with Cab Franc, Gamay, Grenache and Malbec but the general description is: ‘a little from here, a little from there’. Which is kind of like the winemaking equivalent of Mr In-Between’s ‘ah a bit of this and a bit of that’.Gary Walsh described last year’s release as ‘frisky!’ and it’s entirely apt descriptor again here. This red wine has some energy. I guess you’d call it red cherried but there are blueberry, bubble gum, musk and fragrant garden herb notes at play too. It’s fun, it’s light-ish, it’s well-made and it’s just the ticket for casual drinking. 91 points. Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front Jan 2024

A blend of Grenache, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir

Each component undergoes natural whole-berry fermentation in open fermenters and is gently pumped over twice daily to retain the wine’s freshness and develop a fine tannin structure. After a short time on skins, each component is pressed to old French puncheons to undergo full malolactic conversion and a brief maturation. The wine is then carefully blended with a small S02 addition made before bottling. Bottled young to maintain vibrancy.

The wine is lively and perfumed with raspberries, pomegranates, dried herbs and purple flowers. There’s juicy fruit, subtle tannin and bright acidity. – Jarrod Johnson

60/40% whole berries/bunches; pressed to older French oak and stainless steel. A light cherry red. Crushed red berries, a little blood orange and some herbal notes can all be found in this brightly fruited and immediately appealing wine. There’s a nice touch of grip on the palate, too, giving the wine shape and ensuring it will still be looking good three to four years from now. 92 points. About Punt Road Wines, Yarra Valley

Everything we do comes from our home in Coldstream…ideas are born here, the grapes are grown here, and our wines are crafted and shared here. As a family owned vineyard and winery, we aim to create wines that reflect the heritage of our site, and the independent, creative energy of the Yarra Valley. Winemaker Tim Shand guides the path of fruit from more than 150 acres of estate-grown vineyards.

Our Range….
Winemaker Tim Shand selects fruit from over 150 acres of estate-grown vineyards on our 300 acre farm. We’ve planted several varieties over the past 27 years to best suit this site including Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Gamay Noir, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. These varieties shine in different ways across these two distinctive expressions.

Our Philosophy…
“We only produce wines from our own vineyard in Coldstream, a deliberate, and to us, significant decision. It gives us the opportunity to put all our focus on our one patch of dirt and provides us with a greater understanding of our site along with 13 vintages of cellar memory to draw on.”  Tim Shand, Head Winemaker

Winemaking Technique…
Using minimalist intervention winemaking techniques allows us to deliver wines of outstanding quality, highlighting season variations.

CellarHand

CellarHand is a fine-wine importer and wholesale distributor, with a portfolio featuring some of the most sought-after estates of Germany, Austria, France and Italy, as well some of the greatest producers from Australia and New Zealand. Our ethos has always been to build a portfolio as you’d construct the perfect wine list. We work with small, family producers who express the best of their regions. The wines we sell are the wines we enjoy, and the people who make them are like family to us. They are wines that taste of where they come from, and though they’re steeped in history and stamped with the signature of their terroir, they’re more than ever relevant – and desirable – to the Australian diner of today.
