Yalumba Paradox Shiraz 2019 (6 Bottles) Barossa Valley

As you might expect from its name, the Paradox Shiraz is not what you would expect from a wine from the warmest parts of the northern Barossa Valley. It’s a softer, more gentle, velvet-like and savoury style of wine.

Crimson red in colour. An alluring bouquet of wild fennel, boysenberry and rose petals, surrounded in subtle notes of smoky oak. A generous palate with loads of boysenberry, chocolate and plum cake. The wine has a silky texture and finishes with velvet-like tannins, making it a delight to drink.

Terroir & Site
The northern area of the Barossa Valley has some of the oldest landscapes in the Barossa, with bed rocks forming the famous soils in which the grape vines grow. It is also one of the early grape growing areas of the Barossa, with many generational growers who are both traditional and attuned to the needs of making their vineyards sustainable with modern viticultural thinking.

The Shiraz grapes are picked earlier than most in the region, for spicier flavours, softer mouthfeel and slightly lower alcohol percentage. The Paradox is matured for 15 months in new and older French oak.

About Yalumba

While the Barossa is our home, we draw on the varied climates and soil types across Australia to make wines grown in some of the country’s finest wine regions.

The Yalumba story started with Samuel Smith venturing across the seas from England to a small town called Angaston in South Australia. He founded Yalumba in 1849, planting the first vine under moonlight with his son, Sidney. His bold, pioneering spirit has passed through the generations, influencing each of Yalumba’s proprietors throughout the years; Sidney Smith, Walter Smith, and Wyndham Hill-Smith, all the way through to our fifth generations proprietor today, Robert Hill-Smith..

Robert led Yalumba into the modern era by cementing our reputation as an internationally-focused and innovative business within the Australian wine industry. He pioneered Viognier in Australia, established Australia’s First Families of Wine and launched Yalumba’s most prestigious wine — The Caley Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz, honouring his great uncle Fred Caley Smith. Robert’s family carries on the legacy set in place by Samuel Smith, continuing to experiment and showcase the best the Barossa has to offer.

Yalumba operates the Southern Hemisphere’s only fully operational Cooperage, crafting bespoke oak barrels that elevate the wines aged within them. Our Nursery is a global leader in wine innovation, growing, evaluating and supplying quality grape vines to the Australian wine industry.
