Deep Maroon with purple hues.

Sweet, ripe blackberries, violets, and dark chocolate on the nose. Densely layered blue fruits on a firm midpalate, with cool climate natural acidity, and fine-grained tannins from the fruit integrated with French oak provide support, length and complexity.

A combination of handpicked and machine harvested fruit was destemmed, chilled and transferred to open fermenters for cold soaking. The must was allowed to warm naturally before being inoculated with a cultured yeast strain and fermented on skins with a combination of hand plunging and pump overs twice daily throughout. Pressed to tank and racked to French barriques (30% new) for malolactic fermentation and maturation for 14 months, before blending, filtration and bottling.

Pair with Traditional Osso Bucco.

Limited and Exclusive. This wine can be cellared for 10-15 years. 1548 Bottles Made.

94 Points – “The Wyjup Collection is sourced across Plantagenet’s five pioneer vineyards planted in 1968. Its perfume is complex and changes over a matter of minutes from oak spice, through damson jam, black olive and peppermint. To taste, the mouthfeel is ripe and dense, yet sinewy, not broad. Oak is savoury and frames the earthy black fruits well, finishing supple and warming. Very stylish and serious wine.” – WA Wine Guide.

About Plantagenet Wines

Plantagenet’s vineyard estate has been carved out of the regions distinctive Marri Soils named after the massive native Marri, or Red Gum trees that grow here. The soils are ironstone gravelly sandy loams over a base of clay or ironstone rock. The vineyard block sites were selected where good water drainage allows control over vine vigour, one of the most important determinants of fruit quality.

Irrigation is used infrequently and only to supplement natural rainfall events forcing the vine roots deep into the subsoil and building natural resilience within the vine. The combination of soils, landforms and climate – or terroir – creates wines of rare distinction and quality.

High quality blocks from these vineyards are well known to the winemaking team and special care and attention is given throughout the growing season to those that historically make the “Wyjup Collection” and Plantagenet Estate wines.
