The smokiness of this wine, the refreshing acidity, the complementary texture, the push of pomegranate and strawberry, the way it dries and puckers through the finish – it all points to seriously good drinking, particularly in the context of food. The price is especially good too. Seek this out. 93+ points. Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front Jan 2024

2023 was a cool vintage that produced exceptional wines across all varieties. Despite the delayed harvest caused by the cooler growing season, we were fortunate to have a mild summer with just a few hot days that allowed our fruit to mature gradually. Consequently, our wines boast complex and elegant flavours, fine tannins, and beautiful natural acidity. Our vineyard’s success this year is a testament to the hard work and dedication we put into caring for it.

Our Pinot Gris is crafted using a blend of different blocks, with 65% of the harvest undergoing 100% whole-bunch fermentation in various-sized fermenters. Another 30% of the fruit is fermented on skins in a 4-tonne fermenter with twice-daily pump overs, while the remaining 5% is left in the press for 24 hours before undergoing a wild barrel ferment in old puncheons. After 20 days, the batches are pressed into old hogsheads where they remain for three months before bottling. We add minimal SO2 the day before bottling. – Jarrod Johnson, Airlie Bank

A fantastic introduction to the joys of skin-fermented white wines – as well as the texture, flavour and pinosity to be found in well-grown Pinot Gris grapes when vinifed in this style. Notions of cherry, strawberry and nashi pear with leafy and smoky-spice undertones drift across a dry, pulpy and faintly grippy palate that makes the mouth water.

About Punt Road Wines, Yarra Valley

Everything we do comes from our home in Coldstream…ideas are born here, the grapes are grown here, and our wines are crafted and shared here. As a family owned vineyard and winery, we aim to create wines that reflect the heritage of our site, and the independent, creative energy of the Yarra Valley. Winemaker Tim Shand guides the path of fruit from more than 150 acres of estate-grown vineyards.

Our Range….
Winemaker Tim Shand selects fruit from over 150 acres of estate-grown vineyards on our 300 acre farm. We’ve planted several varieties over the past 27 years to best suit this site including Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Gamay Noir, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. These varieties shine in different ways across these two distinctive expressions.

Our Philosophy…
“We only produce wines from our own vineyard in Coldstream, a deliberate, and to us, significant decision. It gives us the opportunity to put all our focus on our one patch of dirt and provides us with a greater understanding of our site along with 13 vintages of cellar memory to draw on.”  Tim Shand, Head Winemaker

Winemaking Technique…
Using minimalist intervention winemaking techniques allows us to deliver wines of outstanding quality, highlighting season variations.

The wines we sell are the wines we enjoy, and the people who make them are like family to us. They are wines that taste of where they come from, and though they’re steeped in history and stamped with the signature of their terroir, they’re more than ever relevant – and desirable – to the Australian diner of today.
