As far as we know, this unique wine is the only Cortese grown within the boundaries of Barbaresco, so perhaps the fact that the Rocca’s grow it at all should be clue enough that we’re on to something special and unique. The one-hectare plot of 40-year-old vines are rooted in Montegrosso d’Asti (in Barbaresco, just south of Asti itself) on clay and limestone soils. It was aged in a mix of stainless steel and mature French oak (just four months in barrel).

It’s a deeply textural white, with layers of fresh Bosc pear, saline minerality and some wild herbs, underpinned by ripe fruit weight underpinned by chalky freshness and some phenolic chewiness on the finish.

Description

Winemakers since four generations.

Our history starts in the mid 1940’s when Albino Rocca’s father Giacomo started in the wine business initially selling grapes from family vineyards and later making his own wine that was sold in demijohn.

Thanks to the inheritance of some of our most precious vineyards in the 1960’s our grandfather was able to start what is now our winery Albino Rocca. Albino’s hard work and his strong support of our father Angelo Rocca laid the foundation that created a family winemaking tradition that has grown internationally over the years.

Our history has been built together, year by year. First through the gradual acquisition of vineyards and the production of not only Nebbiolo, but also Dolcetto and Barbera in addition to our continuous effort to evolve the quality of our Barbaresco – which starts in the vineyards and continues in the cellar.

Fine Wine Cellars

On the one hand, our role as a merchant of all things wine & spirits could not be simpler. We aim to source the most delicious, the most authentic, and the highest quality products possible from Australia and around the world in order to offer them to our clients. We live or die by how well we perform this task. Of course things are rarely as simple or as easy as they seem. Hunting for wines & spirits is no different. Apart from the months spent travelling, countless days and evenings spent tasting and the outrageous wine expenditure in the name of ‘research’, sourcing quality wine and spirits requires expertise and experience. Understanding the potential of a producer and their products is much more than just a slurp and a spit.
