About Tuscany
Tuscany is a Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC, or controlled designation of origin) wine region in western Italy. The rolling hills of Tuscany, topped with medieval villas, vineyards and olive groves, are instantly recognisable to wine-lovers across the world. It is a region renowned for the quality of its wines and many of the most famous wine estates.
Names such as Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano spark the imagination and the stellar stable of Super Tuscan IGT (Indicazione geografica tipica) wines from the region have become household names. Sangiovese is the king of red grapes here, but many other indigenous and international grape varieties are grown amongst the hills, creating a rich tapestry of characterful wines that sing of their Italian origins.
High on a Tuscan hillside, not far from Siena and Perugia, sits the historic town of Cortona. Avast plain extends on one side and on the other, the hill and village. This is the captivatingpanorama surrounding the Santa Cristina winery, established in 2006 to strengthen and renew the tradition of crafting itseponymous wine, over 70 years after its first vintage.
Over time, Santa Cristina has become a reference point forwinemaking experts as well as wine enthusiasts due to our commitment to achieving quality. The diligent care taken invineyards and cellar management have always been our incentive to continue with innovation and research in exploringindigenous as well as international grape varieties.
The resulting family of wines are different yet highly distinguishablefor their unmistakable artisanal style, proof of the enduring connection between vineyards, terroir and man’s dedication tothe land. Santa Cristina Rosso is deeply rooted in traditions and everyday life, a wine that is able to express Tuscantypicity in a soft, enveloping and hospitable style.
