Auld Family Wines Wilberforce 2022 Eden Valley Riesling (6 Bottles)

$275.00 GST Included

AUSTRALIA WIDE SHIPPING INCLUDED

Our Eden Valley Riesling shows intense floral aromas coupled with hints of citrus on the nose. On the palate, there’s great depth, with notes of lime and clementine coming to the fore. The wine shows length & regional minerality, finishing with crisp Eden Valley acidity.

The vineyards are located at the southern end of the valley, which means they were protected from much of the searing summer heat. The grapes were picked overnight in early March at perfect ripeness. Lower yields produced intensity and chalkiness in the fruit.

WINESTATE MAGAZINE – 98 POINTS
Super pretty nose, shy but seductive with lively musk and floral aromas. Lovely flow and purity of vibrant white floral fruit flavours with lip smacking acidity

WINE ORBIT (SAM KIM) – 94 POINTS
Super elegant and delightfully poised, showing white flesh peach, lemon pith, crunchy apple and subtle floral aromas, it’s finely expressed on the palate with excellent focus and flow. Brilliantly structured by delicate texture and racy acidity, finishing impressively long and linear.

The Wilberforce Story
The Auld family history has many layers and William Patrick (WP) Auld made sure very early on it wouldn’t be confined to South Australia, climbing aboard his trusty stead Wilberforce for many an adventure. The pair was part of the expedition led by John McDouall Stuart that successfully crossed Australia from south to north for the first time, with WP lending his expertise as a surveyor.

WP forged a special bond with Wilberforce, a muscular 17-hand dark brown stallion who allowed only WP to ride him. WP worked in the Auldana vineyard and was a founding member of the Adelaide Hunt Club in the Adelaide Hills, often riding with well-known poet and jockey Adam Lindsay Gordon. A descendent of the English horses brought to Australia by the first settlers, Wilberforce could go all day without tiring despite Australia’s unforgiving climate and was WP’s loyal companion for 37 years.

Similar to WP’s tireless nag, the Wilberforce range is the workhorse of Auld Family Wines and won’t let you down. Sturdy, dependable and always on hand, these wines constantly deliver, just like Wilberforce when transporting WP thousands of kilometres through the Australian interior.

About Auld Family Wines

As a kid growing up in the Barossa Valley, wine is part of your DNA even before you’re old enough to realise it yourself. Whether it was the dried grape seeds breaking their falls from the schoolyard monkey bars – whilst kids elsewhere land on bark chips – or the ridiculously early mornings pruning vineyards as teenagers, wine quickly became a way of life for Jock and Sam Auld.

Sporting awards came in the form of local wine, often before they were even remotely close to being old enough to enjoy it, and their dad’s 40th birthday port barrel quickly became fair game. The port may have been more out of necessity than enjoyment, at least to begin with, and certainly didn’t make the early starts any easier, but it all contributed to an upbringing that fostered a love for wine that is still growing in Jock and Sam today. It’s no surprise, really – six generations earlier their pioneering great-grandfather was planting some of South Australia’s very first vines.

Now, over 150 years later, they are producing wine that captures the rich environment of their home state while adding another chapter to the family’s storied history; hoping to one day inspire yet another generation of Aulds to carry on the legacy.

We look forward to sharing a drink with you. Sam & Jock.
