Ruby red with violet hues, this is an elegant wine that emphasises ripe blackberry and stewed cherry fruit flavours, hints of spice and smooth tannins that when young, will need a little food to tame it. If your local restaurant served Pappardelle with hare sauce, slow-cooked ragu’ or wild boar sausages with truffle oil, aside from moving in, look at a Barbera to pair nicely with, failing that, drink it at home with the sort of cheese that is not for the faint-hearted.

This red grape, cultivated in Piedmont, is the most heavily planted red grape, accounting for more than 50% of all red wine production in the region. The most adaptable and vigorous of Piedmont’s 3 main red grapes, Barbera has a huge range of styles from cherry-scented, firmly acidic and a little rustic to a more rich, robust and silky smooth style.

Barbera’s typical characteristics are high levels of natural acidity and relatively low levels of tannin, although the grape produces wines of deep ruby colour. This specific bottling is cultivated from a single vineyard of 2 hectares in the heart of Barbaresco, and whilst the fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless tanks, it is then decanted into Slavonian oak casks where it is then aged for 12 months before release.

Cantina Boffa

Located in the heart of the picturesque village of Barbaresco in Piedmont, lies the small, family-run cantina of Carlo Boffa. The Boffa family started making wine in the 60’s and today Carlo manages the 5 hectares of vines, whilst his wife, Laura, handles the firm’s business and trading.

The vineyards are divided into the production of mainly red varieties that you would expect from this prestigious wine-producing zone, with Nebbiolo being the most famous. Dolcetto d’Alba and Barbera d’Alba are produced in limited quantities whilst across the valley floor, the Roero zone is where a small production of Arneis is cultivated.

Modern techniques are used in the winery; however, the aim is to produce wines that speak of the tradition of this part of the Langhe: wines of vibrant colour, heady perfumes and soft silky tannins that envelop a textured body with a slightly above average alcohol content.

L’Atelier Wines

L’Atelier by Aramis Vineyards was founded in 2012, dedicated to supplying a hand-selected range of quality wines to the independent on and off trade. From small beginnings we now operate across NSW, QLD, VIC and WA as well as in our home state of South Australia. Our distribution company was founded on our absolute belief that there was nobody better to represent our McLaren Vale brand than our own team. From that point our mission was clear - to bring together a collection of wine that would complement and match the quality of our own, and to present these to premium retail and hospitality trade across Australia. We believe in working collaboratively with carefully selected producers from Australia and beyond, each sharing the same passion and commitment to quality. Inspired by the Ateliers of 19th century Paris, we see ourselves as a meeting place for highly talented craftspeople at the top of their trade. Our portfolio consists of premium boutique wines from across Australia, New Zealand, Italy and Spain, all carefully selected to represent the very essence of their region, but most importantly at approachable price-points. We do not aim to build a trophy cabinet, we believe that you do not have to spend a fortune to drink like a king, and our selection reflects our ability to seek out wines that consistently over-deliver and represent the very best value.
