“This sweet Viognier with 100g/l residual sugar is a non-vintage blend of five vintages of picked then dried grapes – A deep orange/light amber hue, it looks liked vinified marmalade and has more than a little bitter sweet orange to nose and palate; dried apricots too. Though it’s a little buttery, it’s naughty and nice with the structural rectitude to keep this wine in line – a long nutty spine and impressive freshness. Perfectly lovely.” Sarah Ahmed, The Wine Detective

“Light amber pink in color, this wine smells of dried mangos, candied orange peel, and vanilla sherry. In the mouth it is bright and delicious with dried tropical fruits, candied oranges and candied pineapple, and then all at once, a deep, rumbling vanilla coffee flavor that resonates for minutes in the finish.” Alder Yarrow Vinography

About Castagna Vineyard, Beechworth

The Castagna Vineyard is situated at an altitude of 500 metres five and a half kilometres outside the historic town of Beechworth in north-east Victoria, high in the foothills of the Australian Alps.

We make natural wines of terroir. Our intention is to make, as simply as possible, wine which is an expression of the place where it is grown. The wines of Castagna are multi-awarded and are at the forefront of the new Australia and are fully certified biodynamic.

Our soil mainly consists of decomposed granitic-loam with a predominance of quartz particles on a base of clay. Vines, through photosynthesis, convert air, light and heat from the ethereal into the material. Air, light heat – into – taste, colour aroma.
All estate-grown fruit is certified bio-dynamic
The vineyard is hand-pruned and the fruit is hand-picked

We crop at a little less than two tons per acre.

The winemaking is traditional using only indigenous yeast, and that, combined with minimal interference, is the key to achieving vitality and complexity.

Elevage varies between 18-20 months using only the very best, tight-grain French oak available.
